Ninan Oommen

Mr. Ninan Oommen is a Post Graduate in Social Work and Sociology and worked with William Carey Study & Research Center, Pragna Research & Consultancy Services, Special Olympics Bharat, New Delhi, YCYD, CAPART (Ministry of Rural Development), WWF-India, HelpAge India, Christian Children Fund and USAID from 1973 to 2006. Specialized in Program and Project Management, Knowledge Management, Monitoring & Evaluation with professional experience covering social research and surveys, applied social development (e.g. gender, social security strategies, education and health etc.), participatory approaches to rural development and management, community resource management, capacity building through support to local authorities and service providers, inter-linking government agencies to civil society organizations and NGOs, development of appropriate strategies and methodologies at the institutional and grassroots level for ensuring sustainability, and management of programs. He is former President of Y’s Men International and current member of various Program Committees of New Delhi YMCA. He is currently the Guest Faculty member of the Institute of Management Studies at YMCA, and Chair-of Grassroots India Trust.

Hasrat Arjjumend
Mr. H. Arjjumend attained MSc from G. B. Pant University of Agri. & Tech. in Environmental Science, Professional MPhil in Natural Resource Management from Indian Institute of Forest Management and few certificate courses from World Bank Institute and Human Rights Education Associates, USA. He has over 15 years experience of development, research and writing. Previously he was Biologist at Wildlife Institute of India, Research Officer at NCHSE, CCV Fellow of WWF-India, and Sr. Program Officer at PRIA. He taught for over 2 years in MC National University of Journalism, Bhopal. He founded People’s Resource Centre, a consultancy and publication group, in 1999. He is principal co-founder of Grassroots India Trust. He has got extensive training in various fields in India, Nepal, Thailand, Sweden, and England. He has supervised about 25 study projects and produced over 30 research/discussion papers and technical reports. He is engaged in several social enterprises. He is Managing Trustee and Executive Director of GIT.

Dr. Aslam Ansari
Dr. Aslam Ansari holds Post-Doctorate in Mass Communication from Centre for Mass Communication Research, University of Leicester, England; Doctorate in Extension Education from IVRI, Izatnagar, and Post graduation in Agriculture Communication & Extension from G.B. Pant University of Agri. & Tech. Pantnagar (UK). He has about 20 years experiencing of working in Corporate sector (Mudra Communications, Bangalore/ MICA), Government sector (U.P. Academy of Administration, Nainital), NGO sector (Prerana Population Resource Centre, Lucknow) and Academic sector (Lucknow University; Allahabad Agriculture Institute Deemed University, Allahabad; and G. B. Pant University, Pantnagar). He has about 50 publications in national and international journals of repute. Currently, he is Associate Professor of Agriculture Communication at G. B. Pant University of Agriculture & Technology. He is Trustee of GIT.

Arun Srivastava CMC
Mr. Arun Srivastava studied at Patna University, Jawaharlal Nehru University and the University of Aston at Birmingham (UK). After some experience in research on social and economic issues, he migrated to the UK where he worked as Civil Servant in Her Majesty’s Government looking after inward investment and business development. For the last 18 years he has been researching and writing extensively while heading the Society for Economic Development & Environmental Management (SEDEM). He has done meticulous research on twelve issues of survival including sustainable agriculture and natural resource management. He is the Trustee of GIT.

S. Heleem
Ms. S. Haleem is MA in Social Work from Bhopal University, BA and BLISc from Aligarh Muslim University. She has exposure of over 9 years on development issues and worked with couple of organizations before joining Grassroots India. Her strengths include health education, counseling, women empowerment, gender issues, etc. She is co-founder of Muslim Women Leadership Forum. She is also Administrator at GIT apart from a Trustee.

Chuni Lal
Mr. Chuni Lal graduated from H. P. University. After serving in army for 22 years, he established models of sustainable agriculture on his lands. Being a progressive and technologically-appropriate farmer, he received a number of prizes from HP Agriculture University and Department of Agriculture. He co-founded Institute of Resource & Environmental Management (IREM). He is known social worker in Kullu district. He is currently the Director of SHARA, a local NGO in Banjar (Kullu), and Head of Regional Operations, GIT. He is the Trustee of GIT.

Ashendra Singh
Mr. Ashendra Singh earned MJ from MC National University of Journalism, and M.A. from Jiwaji University Gwalior. He has over 8 years of experience working in Deshbandhu daily, Navbharat, All India Radio, ETV, Yuvvani and Raj Express. He deeply writes on development issues and acquires special skills on NGOs. He has in the past worked as freelance writer / reporter for Catholic Relief Servives, MC National University of Journalism, Scot Wilson, UNICEF, etc. He has extensively written in various Hindi newspaper of India. He is co-founder and Trustee of GIT. He is Media Coordinator, and Editor of Grassroots Media Initiative at GIT. He has extensively written in the mainstream press. He runs Apni Baat media debate forum.

Prof. Kamal Dixit
Prof. Kamal Dixit retired as Head of Department from the Deptt. of Journalism, Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University of Journalism (Bhopal). He is the pioneer of ‘development journalism’ particularly taking it to the rural areas and linking the mainstream media with it. He has age-old experiences of running and writing in mainstream print media and teaching the journalism at postgraduate level. His strengths include training on writing skills, alternative media and rural communications. He has been the member of various panels at state and national level. He is co-founder and Trustee of GIT.
